The Penobscot Building

Our office on the 38th floor of the Penobscot Building in Detroit, Michigan offers spectacular views of the entire metro-Detroit area, Belle Isle, Windsor, and the Detroit River. Rising 566 feet (172.3 meters) from Griswold and Congress Streets in downtown Detroit, Penosbsot is a landmark, a treasured piece of Detroit’s history, and a prime location for our law office. Since the building is the fiber-optic cable hub for all of downtown Detroit, we have access to some of the fastest and most reliable voice and data connections in all of Michigan.

The Penobscot Building was initially started in 1905 as a 13-story rectangular structure. In 1913, a 23-story annex was added. Due to the continued expansion of the downtown Detroit area, architect Wirt Rowland designed a “modern” art-deco structure of an additional 47 stories. Many of the building’s many unique architectural sculptures and decorations were custom-created by the world-renowned Corrado Parducci. When it was completed in 1928, the Penobscot Building was the 5th tallest office building in the world, and the tallest outside of New York City. The Penobscot Building was Detroit’s tallest building from 1928 through 1977, when the Renaissance Center’s 72 story central building was completed. In its early years, the building acted as a landmark and compass for pilots, owing to it’s incredible height, North-facing positioning, and unique red neon beacon tower.
